Supporting CanSat Estonia

Power the Future. Support Young Engineers.

The CanSat competition for Estonian school students will take place for the third time in 2027. Organised by the University of Tartu and ESERO Estonia, the competition has seen remarkable growth in interest and participation. Starting with just 30 students in its first year, the programme welcomed 83 participants in its second year. For 2027, 150 students from 25 teams across Estonia have already registered, and we expect the total number of participants to reach 200–300.

As CanSat Estonia continues to grow, we are looking for partners who share our commitment to inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators. Your support will help us expand the competition and create valuable hands-on learning opportunities for young people across Estonia.

Ways to Support CanSat Estonia

  • Donation through the Tartu Hansa Rotary Club’s Tiivasirutus programme – Make a financial contribution dedicated to supporting CanSat Estonia activities.

  • Direct coverage of competition expenses – Support the organisation of the competition by covering agreed costs and paying relevant invoices directly, up to a mutually agreed amount.
  • Support through the University of Tartu – Contribute to the project through the university’s official cooperation and funding channels.
  • Contribution to the prize fund – Help recognise and reward outstanding teams by providing financial or in-kind prizes.
  • Get personally involved – Share your expertise as a jury member or mentor, or contribute your time as a volunteer to help make the competition a success.

Together, we can inspire more young people to explore science, technology and space, turning their curiosity into real-world experience.

What Is CanSat Estonia?

CanSat Estonia is a hands-on educational competition in which teams of 3–6 students aged 14–19 design, build and launch a mini-satellite that fits inside a standard soft drink can. The challenge combines science, engineering, programming and teamwork, giving students the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world space technology challenges.

Each team must develop a satellite capable of measuring air temperature and pressure and transmitting data to a ground station. In addition, teams design their own secondary mission, which may involve a scientific investigation, an engineering experiment or a demonstration of their own technology.

Through this experience, students develop practical technical skills, creativity and problem-solving abilities while gaining insight into the work of scientists and engineers. The competition culminates in a national final, where teams present their projects and compete for awards. The winning team of CanSat Estonia 2027 will have the opportunity to attend the CanSat Space Engineering Summit at ESA’s ESTEC space centre in the Netherlands, from 30 June to 2 July 2027.
